Clips!

January 19, 2010 by Jodi Leave a Comment

My good friend Liz came over for a few days while my husband was out of town, and I thought this project would help occupy us on her last full day of visiting.  We ended up just winging it and seeing what we could come up.  It reminded me of why I like using patterns or tutorials.  I am not much for artistic freehand crafting.  Fortunately, 2 year olds aren’t picky and are delighted with anything that involving buttons, especially larger buttons.

First attempt

I bought 12 clips for $1 at WalMart and 3 sheets of polyester felt for $.29 each at Joann’s.  I had plenty of buttons on hand (most of them bought in cheap multi-packs at WalMart or Joann’s).  So it really is a cheap project.

Second attempt: The “Purple Monster Clip”.  I tried using strips to make petals.  It turned out huge.

Fourth attempt:  I finally achieved the look I was going for.  3 layers of 4 petals. Each layer slightly smaller than the last.  It was still a big clip though.

Then I figured out this last one.  It is by far my favorite.  Simple, Easy, Not so big that it makes my husband laugh at it.

These nice big buttons make a simple “flower” with a leaf covering the clip beneath it.  I’ll be making a tutorial of this one.  Not that it really needs it.  It is ridiculously simple.

Sew Fearless is about a reckless pursuit of the sewing craft. It is about not letting your fears talk you out of your dreams. It is a place to go for encouragement, information, and sewing camaraderie. It’s a place where “done” is better than “perfect”, and where saying “I didn’t try” is worse than “I failed”. Read More…
