We have been very snowed in these last couple weeks, and I have taken the opportunity to dig out my children’s “Waiting to Grow Into” boxes in preparation for spring. Unfortunately things are pretty sparse for my older two. I more forward thinking mom would have picked up items at the end of season clearance sales last year, but for some reason I didn’t get around to it. He is very charming and chubby reason, so I guess I will forgive him for it.
I scrounged around through my fabric piles and found some old clothes of my husbands. Inspired by Oliver+S’ Puppet Show pattern, I used my favorite McCall’s 5416 pattern to create these little shorts.
The pockets added to the front using MADE’s Gather Pocket Tutorial. They are too fun to make. I put the pockets on the front and skipped the buttons to make them two-year old friendly.
Next, I made a Market Day Skirt. This is really a beautiful tutorial, and I loved the “cheating” gathering technique. The material came from an old dress shirt (blue) and sheet (white). I will definitely be making more of these.
I had a light bulb moment when I was making the pockets for the skirt. I sewed a basting stitch 1/8″ from edge along the curved edge of the pocket. I used it to ease under the 1/4″ fold. It was WAY easier than all the pins I needed for the shorts’ pocket.
🙂 I’m impressed.
