My mom requested this as her birthday gift this year. She wanted a cover for her Magnificat booklets, sturdy and with a velcro closure. She asked for a dark, not easily dirtied, fabric, but I decided instead to print out her favorite prayer on fabric. Hope she doesn’t mind. The outer fabric is home dec weight with interfacing on it’s back.
Inside is brown twill (with interface backing) , and scavenged plastic from some toy packaging. I also sewed in some ribbon for place markers and made my own bias tape for edging.
I borrowed a friend’s copy with the leather-like cover available from Magnificat to design from. Here is my cover with “leather cover” (upper left) and the magazine (upper right).
Happy Birthday, Mom!
Wow! That is SO sweet!
You should make those for craft fairs!!
This looks great! I might have to steal this idea from you…
Um, this is WAY cute! I think I might have to share this over on my blog 🙂
What other adorable Catholic things have you been sewing that you’re holding out on me??? 😉
You are more than welcome to share it on your blog. I hope to be making more because it was such a hit with my mom.
I don’t have any other Catholic crafts right now but you will be the first to know when I do.
I found this post by searching ‘Magnificat crafts”. Great idea, but I’m looking for something else … I subscribe to Magnificat and have a thing about not putting them in the recycle bin. They are so beautiful, I can’t bring myself to just throw them away. I have been wanting to come up with some sort of craft where I could repurpose them and send them into the world 🙂
Maybe a papier-mâché or mod podge craft? If anyone has any ideas or can point me to ideas on the web that would be great (I probably have 5 or more years worth of magazines so lots of material 🙂
