I’m not to thrilled about this months project, but it was a nice foray into making pants. The pattern was McCall’s 4261 – View D. I wish I had read the back of the envelope more carefully, because it called for “Two-Way Stretch Knits: Cotton Lycra, Nylon Lycra” It turns out that a two-way stretch is close to impossible to find, except for in swim-wear/dance-wear. So I did find a polyester/spandex rib knit at Hancock Fabrics. It was super soft and had good stretch to it. Sadly, I am disappointed by the drape. It was far too clingy and it was so stretchy that pant legs hung strangely from the center seam.
ON the plus side, the project was completed on time! And it wasn’t the only sewing project I’ve finished up this month (more posts soon!).
On to happier thoughts… my in-laws visited over the weekend, and we got to chatting about my future sewing projects. She is going to come for a long weekend in June and help me make a dress – Vogue 8577. I am hoping to wear it for a wedding in August. The last time I tried to sew a dress, it turned out poorly and I never completed it. So I want to take the time to do this one right – test fit the bodice, get some help choosing an appropriate fabric, etc. I don’t want to rush it, so I will be aiming to finish it by the end of July. Which means, I need a project for June. Any suggestions?
