FINALLY! Many mockups and a burst of self-confidence later, I have made my first metal frame clutch purse.
It’s a purse just big enough for the essentials – wallet, keys, and cell phone. Which will be wonderful for going out without the kids, or for tucking inside of a diaper bag.
I found the purse frame on Etsy and followed the directions found on U-handbag. Lisa’s directions are wonderful and I can hardly wait until her book comes out this fall. (Which is a shame, because I was hoping to drop enough hints to get it for my birthday in July.)
To add the gathers to the purse, I cut out the outer fabric with an extra 6 inches in width. I then gathered it and basted it on the interfacing before assembling the rest of the purse as per instructions.
The purse definitely isn’t perfect (I am not the neatest with glue) and the shape could still use some tweaking, but I’m still thrilled to death with it. Especially because it is the perfect place to display my broach. 🙂
Hi!
I stumbled upon your blog and I loved it! I’m supposed to be making 6 clutch purses for my son’s wedding — for the bridesmaid’s — for November 1st! I bought all the hardware and glue — waiting for it to arrive. I hope I have as good of luck as you apparently had! I have for a long time been wanting to make a clutch with the latch thingy so now I have an excuse. After I make 6 I better have it down!
Wish me luck — haha!
And I love-love-love the flower broach! I also for the wedding made some felt flowers — the real simple variety — to put in the middle of huge bows that will hang from the church pews. I am so going to add one to my clutches! Great idea to tie everything together 🙂
Janice
Good luck!
