Overheard at the park, yesterday morning….
“…It’s why we were late. Gianna had no clean clothes. So, I had to make a skirt for her to wear.”
And let’s not forget to mention the boy version overheard in our house last spring…
“What do you mean you have no clean shorts to wear? Hand me those pants. I’ll hem them into shorts real quick while we wait for your ride to come.”

Please, please, please, tell me you say crazy stuff like this too. What are the crazy Sewing Addicted Sayings overheard in your house?
YES! This has happened in our house, most recently last week. I was going to go shoot some photos of the neighbor girl in a couple garments I had made for pattern-design purposes, but it turned out she had no white tank top. So I made one in 3 minutes before running out the door! Then they found a “real” one, of course, but that’s irrelevant 🙂 Glad I’m not alone! Love this post, Jodi 🙂
Hahaha, yes!! My husband has given me strange looks over it but everyone is dressed. 🙂
…or dishes, or scrubbing toilets, or making the bed…
My fave last school year was – ‘Mom, what’s more important? You sewing on that button, or me being on the bus on time?!!’
Had to think about it.
Oh i’m so glad this isn’t just me. I’ve sewed a coat to wear to a dinner party the day of. Just this past Saturday I decided to alter my bathing suit 1/2 hour before I was supposed to leave for the beach. (it worked).
This is perfect, Jodi. I do this too. 🙂 Like this past weekend when I was finishing up my little guy’s birthday shorts, when I was supposed to be baking a birthday cake… but they both got finished! 🙂
Yep. My friend’s daughter had a potty accident at our house once and I grabbed the first thing I could find (an old crib sheet), sewed it into a quick tube, and threw it on her (bonus- it already had elastic and a casing, I just adjusted that a tiny bit so it would stay on). I don’t even think I hemmed it, but it sure made her feel better. 🙂
Yay! I’m not alone! Thanks, ladies!
Ha, this is great! My sewing skills aren’t up to this, but I have been known to make a pair of earrings right before leaving the house because the (dozens and dozens) of earrings I already had just weren’t quite right.
Very funny. Makes me feel not so strange now. My sister is that way with knitting as well. We were driving to visiting family with our small children when we encountered an unexpected snowstorm, she was “prepared” and by the time we arrived a few hours later, three little kids hats were finished and mittens were shortly to follow. We laughed about needing her to knit some undies in case someone forgot those. 🙂
