Sewing Spaces Tour

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

Christina of 2 Little Hooligans was kind enough to invite me into her Sewing Spaces blog series, and so today I have the pleasant challenge of trying to encompass everything that this room means to me in a handful of sentences and a few pretty pictures.

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

Someone who doesn’t have their own sewing space knows what a gift it would be given one, and I can’t imagine someone with one could ever stop being grateful for it. I’ll have to trust that, whatever your sewing room situation, you understand just what it means to me to be able to share these photos with you.

We’ve moved into this house about a year and a half ago, and I have taken my time getting  my fingers into this space, learning how to use it,  and collecting the details slowly.

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

I wouldn’t call the room “finished”, because there are still some key pieces that I want to tweak, like the cutting table, and better pattern storage. However, I am content with the speed of things. It is world’s better than where I started sewing when my first children where little.

Old Sewing Space

Humble beginnings. We make do with what we are given, right?

Sewing is a material intensive hobby, and storage is a challenge. How do you keep things close at hand, and yet feel uncluttered? I feel like I am finally getting things where I want them to be.

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

Most of the fabric stash is out of sight, folded neatly in a tiny closet.

Clear bins aren’t glamorous, but they are fantastically functional for holding zippers, hardware, leather, ribbons, and the like.

The latches on these bins are crucial, as curious fingers are always digging around my room while I sew.

These little fingers always leave evidence of their intrusion.

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

On one hand, it drives me crazy when they meddle with this special space, but on the other, it feels appropriate that they invade every corner of my life.

The Sew Fearless Sewing Room Tour

My life is bettered by their invasion.

Be sure to hope over to 2 Little Hooligans to see more from this fun weekly series. Thanks for having me, Christina!

What a lovely space you have, and what cute invaders hehe love the chalk drawings 🙂 Isn’t it weird how setting up a sewing room can take forever? It is such a satisfying process though!

I think the longer process is the way to go. There is no way you can plan out everything perfectly all at once.

The chalkboard is an amazing idea!! I’m glad no one ever asks me to share my space because I’d never be able to get it clean and organized enough to photograph it. Yours looks sweet and perfect. 🙂

Luckily, I had a couple months advance warning to prepare for it. 🙂

I love this Jodi! Such a great space! And there is nothing both worse and better than kids in a sewing room :).

I know what you mean… my sewing space is in my living room right now, but I’m really thankful to have it… it’s a huge step up from setting everything on my dining table and moving it for every meal.
I love your pegboard and giant chalkboard! And boxes are great for notions… most of mine are in zip-top plastic bags right now, and aren’t very easy to sort through!

I used to have a sewing room. Twice, actually. Both times I happily turned it into a nursery. I’d love to buy a bigger house so I can have a place to put my sewing machine that isn’t a closet shelf!
