Sewing Machine Cover

November 21, 2014 by Jodi 3 Comments

Sometimes you just need a quick project. And by “quick”, I mean you make a sampler three years ago, insert it into a quilted panel the next year, and then let it languish in the Works In Progress pile for another couple of years, before spending an hour finishing it off.

I am in the midst of fitting and sewing a Christmas party outfit for myself, and personal sewing is always stressful for me. I needed a quick fix to perk me back up, and this sewing machine cover was just the thing. No pattern, in fact, it is rather too large for my serger, but i.don’t.care. She does the job and looks adorable doing it.

The lovely sampler pattern is available on my beloved Bari J.’s website here.

I like making tops for myself out of knit fabrics. They always sew really quickly (for me because I’m lazy, don’t pin things and just figure out quick fixes if I screw up) and I can wear them right away…so it’s instant gratification. Apparently I’m a year-round selfish sewer. I suppose it’s not the worst kind of sewer to be. I always reap the benefits!

This cover is beautiful. What a nifty idea!!

That is really cool. Worth the wait, I think. =) I love the sampler.
Quick…. I don’t know, my quick projects usually end up with me frustrated and wishing I’d taken the time to make a proper garment. Even simple skirts with elastic waistbands turn out horribly at times like those. Of course, things that would be quick for most people take me several days, so my frame of reference may be off. 😉
