nest

Two weeks to due date.

Carousel baby cardigan - pattern by Lisa Chemery, sewn by Sew Fearless

I’ve been feeling a strong need to retreat this last week. I haven’t felt like leaving the house as much, or visiting friends, or adventuring with my children. I’ve been touchy and emotional. During one of those grouchy moments when I was literally hiding from my children in my sewing room, I had a vision of a cat making a nest of blankets in a dark closet and the cat scratched at anyone that approached. That mental picture perfectly summed up my emotions of these days. I guess I am a mammal too. No matter how ethereal our human minds can get, we can’t deny our flesh and blood and hormones and we need to nest when the time comes!

It has been a productive kind of retreat though. One where most of my list of “before the baby, I need to…” items got checked off at a furious pace.

I washed the car seat, pulled out the baby clothes, mailed important packages, and paid bills. There was sewing too of course – a pile of mending and a new liner for the vintage wicker bassinet that we now have set up in our bedroom.

vintage bassinet

This bassinet has been in Andy’s family for ages. His great-great-grandfather slept in it and all of my children have too. My mother-in-law made a liner for it when I was pregnant for Duncan, but that liner had gotten stained and shrunken after 5 babies of use. It was definitely time for a refresh.

I have also finished knitting up my first ever sweater for the little dude to wear this early fall. I used the Carousel pattern by Lisa Chemery and I can’t say enough good things about it. It is so clearly written for a novice knitter like myself. I can’t wait to try more of her patterns! And maybe knit a couple more of these sweaters.

My hope is to schedule a couple more posts over the next couple of weeks, but I am not sure what time, family and hormones will allow before the baby arrives. I am sure you understand. In the meantime, I hope all you fellow Americans enjoy a wonderful holiday weekend!

God bless!

Oh the new bub will be here so soon! All the best! The bassinet is gorgeous! Love the fact it has been in the family for so long! The cardi is amazing – as someone who could not knit to save my life I am very jealous (in a positive way) of those who can 🙂

That sweater is GORGEOUS. And so is the bassinet. How special that so many people have spent times as little newbies in it.
