I dropped this little pretty in the mail this morning for a friend of mine. It is a vegan-friendly twist on my Needle Book project. The embellishments are what makes these needle books special. For this one, I decided to try my hand at embroidery. It has been a long time since my days of friendship bracelets and sewing daisies all over my dad’s hand-me-down bell bottoms. So, although it isn’t my true first embroidery project, it feels new to me again.
I used my original Needle Book with Scissor Shield pattern as the starting point, but I replaced the leather pieces with two layers of corduroy backed with woven interfacing. I also added an extra elastic loop and button to keep the snips in place.
It would seem that I have been bitten by the embroidery bug. It might just be the perfect portable nursing-friendly sewing hobby, and I can see myself doing more of it in the future. I am eagerly awaiting the Grand Launch of Bari J’s We Love French Knots website where their will be top-notch tutorials, projects, inspiration, and giveaways starting on July 25th.
I have loved getting to know the amazing creative powerhouse Bari J on twitter. Her enthusiasm for the sewing craft is infectious and her “unflinching desire to learn every type of sewing” resonates well with me. Best of all, she is totally personable and loves chatting with other sewing enthusiasts. Go! Follow her now. Then, head over to We Love French Knots to prepare for the Grand Launch festivities.
I’m ready. Are you?
That’s what it looks like when you “try your hand” at embroidery?!? The bicycle is absolutely darling!!!
It’s not a bicycle. 😉 I used transfer paper to copy some motorcycle clipart and just sewed over the markings. I can’t draw freehand to save my life.
Hmmmm–of course, that’s why the tires are so (cute and) fat! My brain saw the word “vegan” and went down the earth-friendly transportation path!
It is made for a very fun person. 🙂
This version is so cute. It’s definitely being put into my to-make pile so that I can take my embroidery on the go.
Send me a pick and I’ll try to post it!
