iPad Mini Sleeve featuring HGTV Home Decor Fabrics

iPad Mini Sleeve - SewFearless.com

Remember the “Geek-Chic iPad Case” I made? And how I wish I had an iPad so I could keep it for myself? Well, now I have one of the “Mini” variety, and when I was offered the opportunity to try out some of Jo-Ann Fabrics’ new HGTV line of home decor fabrics, it seemed like the perfect use for them.
HGTV Home Decor Fabrics from Joann Fabrics

The top fabric is a print called “Urban Blossom Berry” and below is an upholstery fabric called “Checkered Past Berry”. (I was also sent some trim that didn’t make it into this project.) Purdy Purdy!

FYI, Jo-Ann’s is running a 50% off sale on all HGTV fabrics and trims from April 14 – May 4, 2013. Don’t forget to use the coupon below for extra savings!!! (Valid April 7 – May 4, 2013)

If you have never used home decorating fabrics before, they are thicker and stiffer than quilting type fabrics and I love using them for bags. These, like many other home dec fabrics come in nice wide widths, 54″ and 57″ wide. It’s nice to have that much more fabric to work with, just don’t forget to take the width of the selvage into account when choosing your project yardage. I’ve been thrown off by that before.

I’m really digging these happy bright colors. I am needing lots of happy and bright these to lift me out of my sleepless fog.

iPad Mini Sleeve

Because the original pattern (found in Lisa Lam’s A Bag For All Seasons) is made for the standard iPad, I used the suggestions in the book for scaling it down to Mini size. Just to be extra exciting, I tried out LiEr’s tutorial for making fully reversible bag straps.  Verdict: Trickier than my fav method, but makes for a really slick finish.

reversible strapGosh, it felt so good to finish a sewing project, even if it meant working slowly in 5 minute segments, or doing as much as I could one-handed while carrying Vinny in a sling. My mom is in for a visit this week and she gave me a good chunk of sewing time on Monday that I used to finish it up. THANKS, MOM!!!!

What a relief to know that I am still “Jodi, Sewing Enthusiast“, even now that I have become “Jodi, Mother of Five.“

Love the mini! I’ll have to try that strap. It does look slick. And so do you with that awesome sling!

That sling has carried 3 babies! Well loved and very comfy. I have to say my silk one is much slick, but I have been keeping it in my diaper bag for out-and-about.

Ah1 lovely case.. I love the colours.. I found the method similiars to Lier’s earlier from somewhere else and like using it for straps with rings.. but I also love your method.. it gives such nice ends with ease. I’ll be using one of these two methods for my straps from now on..

Glad you got that sewing time in!

Love the strap, and that bag looks beautifully made! It’s so nice to get a chance to sew when you haven’t for a while. =)

Hey! I got the same fabric combo you did. I’m being snoopy and seeing what all the other bloggers out there are doing with there’s. 🙂 This is SUPER cute. Unfortunately, I stink on my sewing machine. I recovered a chair and bench with mine. http://www.kammyskorner.com/2013/04/pinkalicious-chair-makeover-hgtv-fabric.html if you’re interested. P.s. I want my mom to come visit me!!!!! Those are the best crafting times! 🙂

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of
any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was
hoping maybe you would have some experience with
something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything.
I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
