Christmas Bathrobes

December 7, 2012 by Jodi 9 Comments

woohoo!
More Christmas presents finished up! These I can share because I don’t think any of my kids are subscribed to my blog. heh. If I keep sewing at this rate, maybe I will have time to get around to making some stockings this year. (Please? )

I know Christmas PJs are a pretty common gift, but I happen to be a fan of Christmas Bathrobes. They get more use in my house.

Fleece is fun to work with. No need to finish the seams, or fuss about with double-folding the hem. If you want to get super fancy, you can top-stitch down the seam allowances. My favorite part of sewing with fleece is that the thickness and stretch of the fabric cover up any seam wobblies. To work with the thickness, I recommend a longer stitch and some good needles. (Shmetz Size 14 Stretch needles have worked well for me.)

We happen to be a hood-lovin’ family. I’ve tracked down a couple of robe patterns that include them. McCalls 4643 for my toddlers (Gladys and Matthias).

(I added the pockets, because every child enjoys a pocket.)

Then, I used Simplicity 3575 for Gianna and Duncan. I can’t believe how loooong these robes are. How are my babies so big already? sniffle and sigh.

In case you are wondering, Yes, these are robes are as luscious and soft as they look. It was so cuddly to sew them up. Mmm anti-pill fleece. 🙂

Do you sew Christmas PJs or Robes? How many are you cranking out this year? What is your favorite pattern?
Tell me about it in the comments.

They look great. I haven’t sewn Christmas PJ in a while. It might have something to do with the fact my SIL and I sew 21 up for the whole side of the family. Every family got their own colour of shirts with a group name and year on it. It was fun but lots of work.

They are adorable! I’m loving that yellow. And a side note, I love the name Duncan. I really wanted to use it, but my last name is Donough (pronounced “don-oh”) and couldn’t bring myself to subject my child to “Duncan Donut” jokes. *sigh*

Those are really cute! Wish I could sew somethng like them.

Last year I made matching pj pants for the 3 of ours, based on pants we already had. My son’s was fine.. My husbands legs were too tight and mine were to tight around the bum. .I had to open the seam in the back and wear a long tshirt! (I realized I based mine off fstretchy pants)

This is great. My grandma always made us Christmas bathrobes every year rather than pjs. Good memories. 🙂 The last one she ever made me I never could get rid of. I had been a teenager at the time so I never really grew out of it. Since the fleece was still nice I re-cut it a couple years ago and made it into a fall coat for my daughter (she was only 4 at the time) who would appreciate the the “fun” snowflake print more than I at my age.

I really like your bathrobes, I am making the same for my kids this year, too 🙂
But I have to be extra careful so they don’t see them!

Adorable. We aren’t really a bathrobe family, but I’m definitely a fan of the Oliver & S kimono children’s pj pattern. It’s such a shame that they discontinued it.
