Sometimes the sewing that is most appreciated by the ones you love is also the least glamorous.
I reeeeeeeeeaaaaalllllllllyyyyy do not like doing mending, but I am trying to have a better attitude about it. I’m not talking about hemming your neighbors’ brothers pants for free just because they ask. (Hey, my time is valuable!) But is it really so awful to take 5 minutes to resew a button on? Or 15 to turn a kid’s ripped up jeans into summer shorts?
It’s so easy for me to forget that these little things are a big deal to my kids and my husband, and this is my public resolve to put these little “un-pin-worthy” projects a little higher up in my sewing priority list.
How about you?
I agree with you I hate mending, and my answer is always NO to anyone who ask me to shorten their pants.
That being said I do see how happy my family is when I take the time to sew on buttons or make them new PJ bottoms. So I think I’m going to work on my attitude towards the mending too.
Yeah, I hate mending too (unless it’s something fun like using a bit of lace to patch a hole). Most of my pants have rolled up cuffs because I can’t be bothered to spend ten minutes hemming them on the machine.
I’ve been converting lots of jeans with torn knees into shorts for Beadboy2. And I’m ashamed to say, not once did it occur to me to, you know, hem them. Perhaps it’s a mental block from my college days, when the tattered edge was much cooler than a neat finish. Or maybe I just hate mending so much I’ve warped my brain.
No judgement from me. I just want them to last long enough to be worn by the next child. 🙂
Not an option for me. Beadboy2 is the only kid I know who wears the seat out of his pants and shorts!
ha!
