Black Coordinate Set

August 12, 2016 by Jodi 5 Comments

I’ve been wearing this black coordinate set hard this summer, and it has resulted in one of those typical sewing blog problems. I couldn’t write a post, because I couldn’t get pictures, because I wore it all the time so it always needed cleaning.

The fabric is a really fun black-on-black polka dot ponte knit. It’s a bit stuffy feeling because it is polyester, but the ponte is really a wonderful weight. I’ll be looking for more of it.

The top is another Linden sweatshirt. I know I’m like a year or two behind the times, but I think I am going to make a billion more of these in the fall. It is a little more substantial than a tshirt, without being anymore fussy. I like.

I did the same side vent and length adjustments as I did on my “Love Yourself Linden“, but this time I made the short sleeve version. I also had to increase the neckband considerably to account for the lack of stretch in the fabric.

I really like how wide the neckline turned out because of it.

When I’m feeling fancy, I wear it with the matching self-drafted skirt.  I have convinced myself that I am in all practicality wearing a dress when I do this.

Black Coordinate Set

Linden Sweatshirt

  • Fabric: Polyester Ponte Knit from Joann Fabrics (no longer available)
  • Pattern: Grainline Studio’s Linden Sweatshirt
  • Cut size 18, but graded up to an extra 1 1/8 inch at side seams for hips
  • Lengthened front 3 1/2 inches, and back 5 inches.
  • Left off waistband, and added 5 1/2 inch side vent.

Knit Straight Skirt

  • Fabric: Polyester Ponte Knit from Joann Fabrics (no longer available)
  • Pattern: self drafted
  • I followed Simple Simon & Co’s instructions for drafting a pencil skirt. Next time I use this pattern, I will add more length at center back because it rides up a bit. Also, I will taper in the side seams a little bit. I want it to be a little more form-fitting through the thighs.

Did you happen to notice the bag in the these pictures? I’m getting reeeeeaaally excited to share more about in a couple of weeks.

Ooooh! Love your summer sewing… This and the swim suit are so fabulous 🙂 And I can relate to the inability to get photos for wearing things too much 😉 You’re always amazing!

I love that Linden hack – I’m a huge fan of side vents. And polka dots with black!…always a winner in my book. It’s a great outfit!

They look great together, very smart. I like the wider neckline and it sits beautifully, you can’t beat a knit skirt either, I have so many.

Cute! I love the ability to mix and match the pieces or wear them together in a 2-piece setacular!
